Both Port Askaig Expressions Entered Took Home The Gold From the San Francisco World Spirits Competition!

110 PROOF  NOSE:  Old-fashioned liquorice, saltwater taffy, fresh oyster shells and citrus spray. PALATE:  Sharp and stony initially, with an intense minerality that quickly becomes sweet and spiced – rich lemon oil with peat smoke, dark chocolate and crunchy barley sugar. The spice grows, adding stewed apple with cinnamon, along with heavy charcoal smoke. FINISH:  Cinnamon spice slowly fades to a flavor of dried apples and pears. 8 YEAR NOSE:  Zesty lemon, smoke, and iodine notes come say “hello” at first sniff, followed by buttery vanilla and cut grass. PALATE:  Surprisingly sweet with caramel paste, honey-glazed barbecued bacon slices, lemongrass and charcoal. FINISH:  The finish is a bit spicier. The perfect companion for a BBQ evening with some friends. Review by Anne-Sophie Bigot of... read more

Kilchoman Loch Gorm 5th Edition Is Finally Here!

Kilchoman Loch Gorm 46% ABV SHERRY CASK MATURED This year’s Kilchoman’s Loch Gorm Single Malt Whisky is finally available in the US. Only a limited quantity of the exclusive bottling will be available and, if past releases are anything to go by, it will sell quickly. Loch Gorm, located to the north of the distillery is very peaty in colour, similar to the dark rich colour of our sherry cask matured single malts. This, the 5th installment of the Loch Gorm range has been matured for over six years in Oloroso sherry butts. Named after a famously peaty loch, from which Kilchoman draws water for the production of this and other releases, Loch Gorm is bottled at 46% ABV and is available in the US exclusively through ImpEx Beverages Inc, with a recommended retail price of $99.99. “Loch Gorm’s rich, spicy character sets it apart in the Kilchoman range” Anthony Wills, Kilchoman Founder & MD Worthy of note, the Robb Report magazine just included Loch Gorm in a list with the most heavily peated Scotches in the world. See post here. Tasting Notes Nose: Spicy and sweet with peat smoke and dark chocolate well integrated. Palate: Soft fruits, well rounded and full of character. Finish: Lingering, sweet and well balanced. Notes: Kilchoman Distillery is a small family run farm distillery based on the rugged west coast of Islay. Anthony and wife Kathy have now been joined by their three sons: George, James and Peter. Kilchoman produces its... read more

Tamdhu & Isle of Skye celebrate multiple awards win at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2016

Tamdhu Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky is toasting a double award win at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, one of the industry’s most prestigious spirits competitions. Tamdhu Batch Strength, the most recent expression released by Tamdhu Distillery, scooped a Double Gold Medal, whilst the classic 10 Year Old was awarded a Gold Medal. This follows Tamdhu’s recent accolade, when Tamdhu Batch Strength was announced as Speyside Single Malt of the Year at the Whisky Advocate Awards earlier this year. The revered competition, which is in its 16th year, took place over three days between 17 and 20 March in downtown San Francisco. The competition saw over 1700 spirits from all over the world being blind tasted by a panel of experts with the finest palates in the industry. Commenting on the awards, Neil Boyd, Commercial Director for Ian Macleod Distillers, said: “Winning such fantastic awards for both Tamdhu 10 Year Old and Batch Strength greatly reinforces the quality of our sherry cask matured whisky. “We always strive to ensure that every drop of Tamdhu is as magnificent as our founders intended and this most recent win once again shows that we are honoring their efforts.” Tamdhu is owned by one of Scotland’s leading, independent family-owned distillers, Ian Macleod Distillers. Tamdhu was born on the banks of the River Spey in 1897. Its quality is defined by the hint of peat in its malted barley, the natural Speyside water that is drawn directly from the Tamdhu spring and the exclusive use of the finest sherry oak casks. Tamdhu is imported by ImpEx Beverages Inc,... read more
